Despite a bunch of Red Bulls players left unprotected during the expansion draft, the Montreal Impact decided against selecting any of them. Carlos Mendes or Tyler Lassiter would have been a good defensive pick, but Montreal Impact head coach Jesse Marsch (seen here kicking David Beckham, lol). Apparently Marsch and the Montreal back office didn’t think any Red Bulls’ bench players were worth taking north of the border.
The Red Bulls opted to protect the 12 players who usually made up the 2011 starting line-up: Stephen Keel, Tim Ream, Roy Miller, Jan Gunnar Solli, Joel Lindpere, Dax McCarty, Rafael Marquez, Teemu Tainio, Dane Richards, Luke Rodgers and Thierry Henry.
